Factors Affecting the Elderly`s Preference for Utilization of Community Care Services

Abstract

|
The purpose of this research was to examine the factors affecting the elderly¡¯s preference for utilization of community care services. The respondents were 2000 old men residing in Daegu. The data were analyzed by statistical methods such as frequency and logistic regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The presence of spouse, presence of adult children, income, recognition of services, ADL, and IADL were significantly associated with homemaker service. 2. Education, presence of spouse, presence of adult children, income, and recognition of services were significant predictors for adult day care service. 3. Education, income, recognition of services, and IADL were strongly
associated with short-term institutional care service. 4. The presence of spouse, presence of adult children, and recognition of services were significant predictors for visiting nurse service. Implications of the findings were discussed and the recommendations for the future directions for education and research were presented.
